Credit Basics

Four things you should know.

1. Get the whole picture.

Most people have a good idea about how credit works. However, your credit card comes with important benefits that you may not be aware of.

2. Your cardholder agreement and disclosures.

An explanation of the charges and other account terms that will be applied to your account is in your Customer Agreement and your Important Disclosures. Read these documents with care to fully understand how you are being charged and how your interest charges are being calculated.

3. If you have billing errors, they can be corrected.

If you think you have found an error on your bill, contact Capital One.

4. Get your credit report.

Credit reporting agencies are independent agencies that collect credit information and distribute it to potential lenders. You can order a copy of your credit report from one of the two largest agencies in Canada.
