At Capital One, we recognize the need to monitor and be mindful of our impact on the environment. In fact, our approach to environmental sustainability is anchored in our company values, which include doing the right thing for our customers, our associates and our community.

Carbon Neutral Business

We recognize that reducing our impact on the environment is not a one-time event but an ongoing journey. Recently, Capital One Canada has become carbon neutral. Capital One Canada's journey toward environmental sustainability began in 2006, when we reduced our impact on the environment by switching 95% of our mail advertising to 100% recycled paper.

Because we recognize that climate change is a significant global issue, we have:

Measured our carbon footprint
Taken action to reduce our carbon footprint
Offset our remaining greenhouse gas emissions to become carbon neutral

Carbon offsets provide funding for projects that reduce the impact on climate change by counter-balancing the effect of greenhouse gases. In 2010, Capital One Canada partnered with Offsetters, a leading carbon management solutions provider in Canada to purchase high quality carbon offsets from wind farms and energy efficiency projects. Offsetters has reviewed and approved our carbon reduction and management practices to confirm we are a carbon neutral business.
